While patients with presbyopia previously had to rely on reading glasses in addition to their contact lenses, multifocal contact lenses eliminate this need and provide seamless and effective vision correction at all distances. Similar to the lenses used during cataract surgery, these contact lenses are available in several different designs, depending on the severity of the patient’s visual impairment and their personal preference. Patients with astigmatism can benefit from Toric multifocal lenses, which correct the abnormalities of astigmatism in addition to providing clear vision.
Our optical department is proud to announce the arrival of the Visioffice with Eyecode. This revolutionary system takes into consideration a patient’s natural head and eye movement to create customized lenses. The Visioffice is a 3-D measuring system that determines head tilt, along with exact eye location, shape and movement. More importantly, it measures the two eyes individually, allowing for the most precise vision possible, no matter where you look through the lens. This all in one system of full range measurements gives patients the benefit they’ve never had before, ultimate lens personalization. This technology is especially exciting for patients who wear progressive lenses.
In traditional progressive lenses, peripheral vision is a challenge, as patients have to look directly at what they want to see clearly. With Visioffice the base of peripheral vision widens, giving you more reading area and less distortion. The revolutionary Varilux S 4D lenses are now exclusively available through OAV with the Visioffice System. Only 4D Technology takes into account leading dominant eye, eye rotation center, natural head posture and position of wear to deliver the most precise and personalized progressive lenses. In addition to taking the new measurements, the Visioffice also takes real-time photographs. This will allow our patients to see themselves wearing the glasses to help with frame style selection.
Bifocal and multifocal lenses help patients focus on both nearby and distant objects without having to switch glasses or contact lenses. This is possible because more than one prescription is combined with a single lens. Bifocals contain two prescriptions (distance-viewing at the top of the lens and near-viewing at the bottom) with a sharp separation in the middle. Multifocal lenses go one step further: they blend near, middle and distance prescriptions smoothly. This means that you don’t have to deal with a “jump” in vision when glancing from a nearby object to one further away. It also means no one can tell you’re wearing special glasses; the lenses don’t have that rectangular, segmented look of bifocals. Multifocal lenses take some time to get used to, but once you do, you’ll never want to go back to regular reading and distance glasses again.
