While LASIK surgery is touted as the best way to free someone from dependence on corrective lenses such as eyeglasses or contact lenses, it is not right for everyone. Determining candidacy and working with an eye care professional who has knowledge regarding corrective procedures is the best way to decide if LASIK surgery is right for you!
What is LASIK surgery?
LASIK surgery is a procedure performed on the eye with lasers to reshape the cornea for better vision. LASIK Is the most common and best known form of laser refractive surgery used to improve clarity and help patients leave behind their corrective lenses for good!
In most situations, patients who undergo LASIK surgery will achieve 20/25 vision or higher. However, some patients still require glasses for reading as they age or driving at night. Regardless, LASIK surgery has a great track record, and complications are very rare. The vast majority of patients who have the treatment are extremely satisfied with their results and enjoy long-term improvement.
What complications may arise from LASIK surgery?
It is rare for patients to have complications or side effects from their LASIK procedure. Sometimes, issues may arise but are short-term and resolve on their own. This may include dry eyes, blurred vision, or visual disturbances. Another extraordinarily rare complication from LASIK is chronic eye pain. I have never seen this in one of my patients.
